Prince Rupert

File # 2017-8539

Police nab impaired driver's as a result of ICBC CounterAttack campaign for the month of December. Throughout the day and evening of December 2nd police were targeting impaired drivers and encountered 2. As a result 1 driver refused to provide a breath sample and the other failed a roadside breathalyzer test. Failing to provide a breath sample carries the same penalty as blowing a fail into a breathalyzer. Both drivers were issued a 90 day driving prohibition and had their vehicles impounded for 30 days.

A check stop was also set up on 7th Avenue East and Seal Cove Circle. During the course of the check stop 60 vehicles were checked. As a result 4 notice and orders were issued to the drivers.

Impaired driving is one of the leading causes of fatal car crashes in BC with an average of 66 lives lost every year. There is no excuse to drink and drive. If you plan to drink, leave your car at home.

Police will continue to be out in full force over the Holidays, if your festivities involve alcohol, plan ahead for a safe ride home: arrange a designated driver or call a taxi.
