RCMP's Message For A Safe Halloween

Prince Rupert

2017-10-20 14:02 PDT

The Prince Rupert RCMP want to wish everyone in our community a fun and safe Halloween. The night is quickly approaching when the streets will be filled with ghosts, goblins, princesses and fairies. For those parents who will be heading out trick or treating with their young ones, please remember the following tips:
- Bring a flashlight, and make sure you aren’t wearing all dark clothing so you can easily be seen
- Do not let your children go inside anyone’s house, and don’t get into cars with strangers
- Only visit houses that are lit and decorated
- Don’t pet animals you don’t know – and owners, keep your pets inside
- Vandalism is not just a trick – it is against the law and will have consequences.

For those of you who won’t be trick or treating, the Community Halloween Fest Committee is once again putting on a fantastic event at the Civic Centre where there will be games, prizes and candy and the evening will end with an amazing Fireworks show. The Halloween Fest will begin at 6:00 pm and will end at 8:00 pm after which everyone is invited to attend the Civic Centre parking lot where the Fireworks can be seen.

The RCMP are reminding the public that it is illegal to sell, give, discharge and manufacture fireworks. Fireworks include, but are not limited to: firecrackers, cannon crackers, fireballs, mines, roman candles, sky rockets as well as sky lanterns.Anybody found in possession of illegal fireworks are subject to a fine of up to $100.00. Once again, please be safe and have a great Halloween.
