Prince Rupert

2017-07-14 15:16 PDT

The RCMP will be stepping up enforcement on the water in and around Prince Rupert and Port Edward this summer so be prepared for an inspection. Members from the Prince Rupert Coastal Unit, Prince Rupert Municipal Detachment and West Coast Marine Services will be making a concerted effort to check on boaters to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable boating experience by making sure the rules of the water are being followed.

Ensuring that people have all the necessary safety equipment on board and are properly licenced will be a major focus of this summer’s Marine Enforcement initiative. The RCMP will be working in partnership with other agencies to ensure compliance on the water.

The RCMP will also be looking to crack down on impaired vessel operators, with the simple message that, Liquor and vessel operation do not mix. On June 5th, 2017 the Prince Rupert RCMP arrested a 52 year old male for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vessel and he will be appearing in court to face those charge later on this year.

Enjoy the water, have fun, be safe but if you see any suspicious or criminal activity please contact the Prince Rupert RCMP at 250-627-0700 or Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
